Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Protect your account with two-factor authentication using an authenticator app.

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your account. After entering your password, you must also provide a time-based code from an authenticator app on your phone. Even if someone obtains your password, they cannot access your account without your phone.

Step 1: Install an Authenticator App

If you do not already have one, install an authenticator app on your phone:

  • Google Authenticator — Available on iOS and Android
  • Microsoft Authenticator — Available on iOS and Android
  • Authy — Available on iOS, Android, and desktop

Step 2: Enable 2FA on Your Account

  1. Go to Account Settings in your dashboard
  2. Find the Two-Factor Authentication section
  3. Click "Enable"
  4. You will be asked to confirm your password
  5. A QR code will appear on screen

Step 3: Scan the QR Code

  1. Open your authenticator app
  2. Tap the "+" or "Add Account" button
  3. Scan the QR code displayed on screen
  4. Enter the 6-digit code shown in your authenticator app to confirm setup

Save Your Recovery Codes

After enabling 2FA, you will receive a set of recovery codes. These are one-time-use codes that let you log in if you lose access to your authenticator app.

  • Save these codes in a safe place (password manager, printed copy, secure note)
  • Each recovery code can only be used once
  • If you run out of recovery codes, you can regenerate them from your settings

Logging In With 2FA

After enabling 2FA, your login process becomes:

  1. Enter your email and password as usual
  2. Open your authenticator app and find the Explola entry
  3. Enter the current 6-digit code (it changes every 30 seconds)
  4. You are logged in

Disabling 2FA

To disable two-factor authentication, go to Account Settings, find the 2FA section, and click "Disable". You will need to confirm your password. We strongly recommend keeping 2FA enabled for account security.

Lost Access to Your Authenticator?

If you lose your phone or cannot access your authenticator app:

  1. Use one of your recovery codes to log in
  2. Go to Account Settings and disable 2FA
  3. Re-enable 2FA with your new device

If you have also lost your recovery codes, contact Explola support for assistance with identity verification and account recovery.
