What's required to operate from South Africa
South Africa doesn't issue a single national tourism license. Instead, operators demonstrate compliance through membership in a recognised industry association (such as SATSA) combined with company registration via CIPC and tax compliance through SARS.
1. Tour Operator Association Membership
Issued by: Recognised tour operator association (e.g. SATSA, ASATA, or similar)
Active membership in a recognised tour operator association serves as your tourism credential. Upload your current membership certificate or proof-of-membership letter. Most associations renew annually.
2. CIPC Registration Certificate
Issued by: Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC)
Proves your business is legally registered in South Africa. One-time document unless company details change.
3. SARS Tax Compliance Status
Issued by: South African Revenue Service (SARS)
Your current Tax Compliance Status (TCS) PIN or document from SARS. Renews periodically — keep yours active.
4. CIPC Memorandum of Incorporation
Issued by: Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC)
Your Memorandum of Incorporation (MOI) lists all shareholders. Used exclusively for our KYC review.
Renewals
Tour operator association membership and the SARS Tax Compliance Status both renew periodically. Explola sends reminders at 30, 7, and 0 days before expiry. After a verified document lapses, a 14-day grace period applies before tours from South Africa are automatically unpublished.
